stoned me just like jelly roll

From Mike Neal Cappellino, Zak Godwin and I gathered at Arnold's, the wonderful "Meat and Three" on 8th Ave in Nashville, TN for lunch a few day ago and sorted out when, how and where to honor our fallen brother, Stan Rawls. The memorial happened last night, Dec 29th, at Zak's groovy cool pad at Big Red. John Mark Painter, his wife Fleming, and her brother Shawn (all from Stan's Fleming and John period) came out, along with dozens of friends of Stan from his 15 years in Nashville. A lot of co-workers showed up from Bread and Co., which provided a wonderful array of food for everyone. John Painter took photos, which you can find on his .Mac page by clicking here.

Zak put photos of Stan up on the wall, had his basses out on stands, and made a memorial shrine for our Standard. Neal Cappellino said some beautiful things, and I resisted urgently the need to cry again. It was moving, wonderful, and Stan would have loved to have seen what we put together for him.

I made this 12 minute photo movie using "Photo to Movie" and then Logic 8 to edit together some songs for it. The first three are Fleming and John songs that Stan played on the recordings of for their F&J release "Delusions of Grandeur." Then the next two songs were from Stan's "Potatoe Pharm" days. The first Potatoe Pharm song, is Mr Charlie. Stan is singing it. The next song is "Big River." Stan loved that song, and sang enthusiastic backing vocals. I tried to put it on YouTube, but they've decided that anything over 10 minutes is too long, even though the service is filled with full-length movies.

Instead, its on my .Mac site, so you can see it if you click here.
